Citizens encouraged to get involved on Boards and Commissions

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg will be accepting applications for positions on various Boards and Commissions from August 1, 2017 to October 20, 2017.

The City Clerk’s Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions on which there are imminent or existing vacancies.

Applications are now being accepted to fill vacancies on the following boards:

Terry Fox Day operating hours for City of Winnipeg facilities and services

Winnipeg, MB - All civic offices are closed on Terry Fox Day, Monday, August 7, 2017.

Recycling/Garbage Collection

Recycling, garbage and yard waste will be collected as normally scheduled on the Terry Fox Day holiday for those with Monday as their collection day.

Construction officially begins on new Valley Gardens Community Centre spray pad

Winnipeg, MB - At an event this morning, Dan Vandal, Member of Parliament for Saint Boniface - Saint Vital, Councillor Schreyer, Councillor Wyatt, Councillor Browaty, Councillor Pagtakhan and Valley Gardens Community Centre President Angela Howie officially turned the sod to begin construction on the new Valley Gardens Community Centre spray pad.

Complete closure of eastbound Ellice Avenue from Erin Street to Arlington Street for street reconstruction

Winnipeg, MB - Eastbound Ellice Avenue between Erin Street and Arlington Street will be completely closed to vehicular traffic starting this Sunday, July 30 at 9 a.m. until Wednesday, September 6. The closure is in place for a street reconstruction project. A single lane for westbound traffic will be maintained while construction is underway.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Travel time information system to help drivers anticipate and avoid delays during Waverley Underpass construction

Winnipeg, MB - The City has launched a travel time information system to help drivers anticipate and avoid delays caused by train crossings and construction while the Waverley Underpass Project is underway. Travel time information will be relayed to drivers in real-time on an electronic message board on northbound Waverley Street in advance of McGillivray so motorists can consider alternate routes.

Street Closures in effect for Canada Summer Games

Winnipeg, MB – The following street closures will be in effect for the Canada Summer Games.

Wednesday, July 26 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. northbound Edmonton Street from Portage Avenue to Graham Avenue will be completely closed for the Canada Summer Games Torch Relay event.

Homelessness Partnering Strategy call for applications now open

Winnipeg, MB - The call for proposals for the Homelessness Partnering Strategy is now open.

The Government of Canada provides funding for projects that support people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS). Since 2012, the City of Winnipeg has delivered HPS federal funding to local community organizations whose valuable work assists and supports individuals and families in Winnipeg experiencing homelessness.

New Winnipeg Sign to be Installed at the Forks

Winnipeg, MB - A new Winnipeg sign will be installed later this week and will be operational in time for the Canada Summer Games to help promote and build pride in the city Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

Located at the Forks near the Festival Stage, the fifty-three foot wide sign will fully illuminate “WINNIPEG” in various colours with eight foot high lettering, and its installation will be one of the many legacy pieces of Winnipeg hosting the Canada Summer Games.

Community recycling depot on Panet Road temporarily closing due to construction

Winnipeg, MB - The community recycling depot located on Panet Road at Mission Street will be temporarily closed for construction on the Panet 4R Winnipeg Depot.

The Panet Road community recycling depot will be closed from Monday, July 24 at 6 a.m. until Friday, July 28 at 5 p.m.

Community recycling depots are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and accept all the same recyclable materials that are accepted as part of the curbside blue cart program.

Mission Street closed between Panet Road and Paris Street

Winnipeg, MB - Mission Street between Panet Road and Paris Street will be temporarily closed for sewer work from 6 a.m. on Monday, July 24 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25.

Motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.
