City releases December 2017 financial update

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s year-end Financial Status Report cites a surplus in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $15 million for 2017. The surplus will be transferred to the Financial Stabilization Reserve.

City opens third 4R Winnipeg Depot

Winnipeg, MB – Beginning today, the Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot is open for residential customers to drop off items that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold. The facility is located at 429 Panet Road, at the corner of Panet Road and Mission Street, and is the third 4R Winnipeg Depot to open in the city.

There is no cost to customers using any of the 4R Winnipeg Depots, as long as all of the materials dropped off are recyclable. Garbage is only accepted at the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot location and is subject to tipping fees.

Winnipeggers encouraged to think big as part of Smart Cities Challenge

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg is a driver of innovation, and the City of Winnipeg is looking for resident input to help make Winnipeg a better place. As part of the Federal Government’s Smart Cities Challenge, Canadian communities are being asked to come up with a big idea that improves the lives of their residents through innovation, data, and connected technology, and submit an application to win up to $50 million.

February 3 is Take Your Child to the Library Day

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Public Library is celebrating Take Your Child to the Library Day on Saturday, February 3, 2018 with craft and story stations, literacy-based games, and special events including magic shows, and family concerts.

As part of I Love to Read Month, Take Your Child to the Library Day is an annual international event dedicated to encouraging families to visit their local libraries.

City of Winnipeg launches official election website

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has unveiled the official website for the 2018 City of Winnipeg Municipal and School Boards Election.

Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for the offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee when they head to the polls on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

City of Winnipeg Cannabis Coordination Committee Established

Winnipeg, MB – A Cannabis Coordination Committee has been established to prioritize and focus the City of Winnipeg’s efforts in preparation for the federal government plan to legalize cannabis later this year, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.
