Busy construction season expected in Winnipeg with over 150 road projects proposed for 2018

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the Government of Canada joined the City of Winnipeg to announce the proposed list of local streets to be considered for renewal in 2018 in addition to the regional street work that will get underway this year. Downtown Safety and Pride Bolstered with New Funding

Winnipeg, MB - Downtown safety and pride are being bolstered with strategic investment in enhanced foot patrol programs, litter cessation and graffiti removal, and an expansion to the Bear Clan Patrol Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“Despite the progress our city has made in reducing crime, public safety remains a concern for many residents,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Residents in our city still consider our downtown more unsafe than other parts of the city, and we need to continue working to address the safety concerns many of our residents have.”

Residential Infill Strategy: Public Priorities Workshop

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is hosting a public workshop on residential infill to help determine priorities for action as we develop our Residential Infill Strategy.

Building on input gathered during the first phase of stakeholder and public engagement, the public workshop will be organized around three key themes: Policy, Design, and Communication. A short presentation will be given, followed by facilitated group discussions that will identify shared priorities and key opportunities for improvement to shape the strategy.

2018 Speaker Series featured at Living Prairie Museum

Winnipeg, MB - The Friends of the Living Prairie Museum Winter Speaker Series will begin January 16, 2018, and will take place from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. every other Tuesday. An interesting group of speakers are ready to share their fascinating work.

Upcoming temporary closure of Carlton Street between Graham Avenue and St. Mary Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - Southbound Carlton Street from Graham Avenue to St. Mary Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic starting this Monday, January 8 at 6 a.m. until Friday, January 12 at 6 p.m. for tower crane work.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

Pedestrian access on Carlton Street will be maintained on the west sidewalk, and Transit buses will not be impacted.

Public invited to provide input on Osborne to Downtown Walk Bike Bridge and Connections project

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is gathering public input on the Osborne to Downtown Walk Bike Bridge and Connections project. The project will close a gap in the pedestrian and cycling network by connecting bike lanes on Assiniboine Avenue to future cycling routes in Osborne Village.

Winnipeggers are invited to participate online and in-person to help shape the design of the bridge and pedestrian and cycling connections to provide a safe and more convenient connection between Osborne Village and the Downtown.
