City of Winnipeg cycling map now available

Winnipeg, MB – The latest version of City of Winnipeg Cycling Map is now available to help Winnipeggers efficiently plan and navigate their cycling trips. The map outlines both formal cycling routes as well as informal routes based on suggestions and input from local cyclists themselves. The map is also a great way to learn about our city-wide inventory of paths, as Winnipeg has almost 250 km of park trails and multi-use paths.

Northbound Tuxedo Avenue between Corydon Avenue and Edgeland Boulevard will be closed to traffic April 22

Winnipeg, MB – Northbound Tuxedo Avenue between Corydon Avenue and Edgeland Boulevard will be closed for crane work from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. Southbound Tuxedo Avenue will remain open while work is underway.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.

Public invited to provide input on Recreation and Parks Strategies

The City is facing some difficult challenges in maintaining its aging infrastructure and making new investments to meet future needs. As Winnipeg continues to grow and change, the need to make strategic, forward-thinking decisions to ensure the City can deliver high-quality recreation and parks services is essential.

City-wide spring cleanup begins Sunday evening

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, April 22, at 10 p.m., crews will begin the annual city-wide spring cleanup. The entire street network, including back lanes, will be swept over the next five to six weeks. Work will initially focus on the downtown area, major routes, bridges and overpasses.

Seasonal curbside yard waste collection to begin Monday, April 30, 2018

Winnipeg, MB – This year's curbside yard waste collection program will begin the week of April 30 for homes in yard waste collection area "A" and the week of May 7 for homes in yard waste collection area "B". Residents can also drop off yard waste for free at the Brady, Pacific or Panet 4R Winnipeg Depots.

Yard waste is collected at the curb once every two weeks, on the same collection day as recycling and garbage, and will continue until November.

Winnipeg Whiteout Street Party Street Closure and Transit Reroute

Winnipeg, MB – Southbound Donald Street between Portage Avenue and St. Mary Avenue will be closed to accommodate the Winnipeg Whiteout Street Party, along with associated set-up and take-down, from 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 20 until 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21.

Motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes such as Main Street and Osborne Street.

'Buy Local' Motion to be Introduced at Executive Policy Committee Today

Winnipeg, MB – A motion directing the Public Service to implement a 'buy local' procurement procedure will be tabled at this morning's Executive Policy Committee Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

Sixteen firefighter recruits graduate from Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service’s 10-week orientation and training period

Winnipeg, MB – At a graduation ceremony this afternoon, Mayor Bowman was joined by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) Chief, John Lane, to celebrate the success of the City’s 16 new firefighters from Recruit Class #1801.

“Congratulations to all the graduates of the WFPS Recruit Class #1801,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “We are very grateful for the commitment each of you have made toward helping your fellow citizens. It takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to a career like this and Winnipeg is very proud of all you've accomplished. ”

St. Matthews Avenue at Empress Street closed due to suspected natural gas leak

Winnipeg, MB - The intersection at St. Matthews Avenue and Empress Street has been closed in all directions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic due to a suspected natural gas leak. Emergency crews are on scene with Manitoba Hydro.

Motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area, allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.
