Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is now participating in the iCemetery app, a mobile app utilized by municipalities across Canada, which provides members of the public with an easy-to-use search tool for burial records at cemeteries. Transcona Cemetery is the first City of Winnipeg municipal cemetery available on the iCemetery app. St. Vital Cemetery data will be available in late summer 2018, with data for the Brookside Cemetery scheduled to be input at a later date.
“We are excited to provide iCemetery as an additional resource to visitors and clients, offering an easy and accessible way to do a burial search at our municipal cemeteries,” says Jane Saxby, Cemeteries Administrator. “While we are beginning with the Transcona Cemetery, we look forward to continuing to add to our database and expanding this service for all of our municipal cemeteries in the City. New users are strongly encouraged to give us their feedback to help improve the app and ensure its accuracy.”
Users of the app can report any issues, including errors or omissions in information, to the Cemeteries Branch by filling out an online form, found at: Application to Amend a Deceased Interment Record.
The free iCemetery app is available for download on smart phones and tablets from Google Play and the App Store. Burial records found on the iCemetery app will also remain available online at the City of Winnipeg cemeteries page: winnipeg.ca/cemeteries/.
