Winnipeg, MB – Residents of Winnipeg have a new spot to beat the heat this summer, as the new Sergeant Tommy Prince Place spray pad at 90 Sinclair Street is officially open.
“The new spray pad at Sergeant Tommy Prince Place is an excellent addition to the programming already being offered by the facility,” said Mike Pagtakhan, City Councillor for Point Douglas and Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services, and Parks. “This is a gathering place for Point Douglas families and will be well-used for years to come.”
The spray pad is fully accessible and includes moveable features so guests can play with water direction. There are a total of 19 above ground features and 40 ground sprays. A toddler area has been added for younger children to enjoy the facility. New picnic tables and benches are available for site visitors.
The project came in under budget, with the City contributing approximately $613,000 toward the project, while the federal government contributed approximately $307,000 through its Canada 150 Fund.
“The Government of Canada is proud to invest in community-building projects that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours,” said the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Western Economic Diversification Canada. “Through these investments, we are demonstrating our commitment to support community growth, economic opportunity, and prosperity across Canada.”
“The new splash pad is a wonderful addition to the community,” said Kevin Lamoureux, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg North. “This fully accessible facility will provide recreational opportunities for families for many years to come.”
