Indigenous youth learn what it takes to pursue careers as firefighters, paramedics and 911 call-takers

Winnipeg, MB - Today, Indigenous youth demonstrated newly acquired skills which could pave the way for them to pursue careers with the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service as firefighters, paramedics or 911 call-takers. Wrapping up a weeklong career camp, participants competed in a physically demanding rodeo requiring them to complete an obstacle course which included simulating resuscitation on a patient, balancing on a beam, and accurately tossing and hitting a target with a firehose.

Graham Avenue between Main Street and Fort Street will be used for Transit service only starting on Monday, July 16

Winnipeg, MB – Starting this Monday, July 16 the section of Graham Avenue between Main Street and Fort Street will be used for Transit Service only and will be completely closed to all other motor vehicles until July 2020.

Closure of the westbound direction of travel is required for the 300/330 Main Street new tower construction project. The two north-side lanes will serve as delivery area for all trucks bringing materials to the site during construction.

City of Winnipeg invites residents to come in and cool off during forecasted high heat

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg invites residents to come in and cool off in civic facilities during regular operating hours, as high temperatures are forecasted over the next few days.

City facilities that are normally open on weekdays and weekends are available to act as 'cooling areas' where the public may come in for relief from the heat and have access to drinking water.

City pools and spray pads are also great ways to cool down.

Future location of the new River Heights Library, renamed Bill & Helen Norrie Library

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City officially revealed the location of the future River Heights Library, renamed the Bill & Helen Norrie Library. The new library will be situated northwest of the Pan Am Pool, near the intersection of Poseidon Bay and Cambridge Street, within the Grant Park Campus area. This is a high-visibility, easily-accessible location for the library that provides street access and available parking for library visitors.

Recipients of Third Annual Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership Announced

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman awarded five recipients with the Mayor’s Scholarship for Community Leadership during a ceremony at City Hall.

Each of the five scholarship winners will receive a one thousand dollar scholarship in recognition of their consistent and outstanding dedication to making their community a better place to live and by solving community problems.

Winnipeggers invited to 12th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival on July 15 at the Living Prairie Museum

Next taxi lottery will exclusively award licences for accessible vehicles-for-hire

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has opened its next round of taxi lottery applications, which will be open exclusively to applicants who intend to operate an accessible vehicle-for-hire.

Applications are now being accepted by the Winnipeg Parking Authority until 4:30 p.m. July 20, 2018. There are up to 60 available licences that will be awarded at a lottery event on July 25 at the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre.
