Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Atlantic Ave. Fire

Released: October 11, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:56 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of a fire at a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue. Upon arrival, crews discovered significant flames coming from windows on the third floor.

A defensive strategy was utilized until conditions in the building improved to the point where crews could safely enter to extinguish the fire. The fire was declared under control at 8:10 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The building was vacant at the time of the fire, as it was undergoing renovations from a previous fire. Occupants of one neighbouring home were evacuated for a short time for precautionary reasons as smoke was blowing toward their home. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
