Winnipeg, MB – Changes to the 15 City of Winnipeg Council wards took effect on September 17, 2018 and are applicable for the 2018 Municipal and School Boards Election.
In December of 2017, the Wards Boundaries Commission released its final report establishing new boundaries for the City’s 15 Council Wards. The major changes include:
- Creation of a new ward, Waverley West, from a number of neighbourhoods in the previous Charleswood-Tuxedo-Whyte Ridge, River Heights-Fort Garry and South Winnipeg-St. Norbert wards.
- Reassignment of all neighborhoods in the previous St. Charles Ward to the St. James and Charleswood-Tuxedo wards.
- Reassignment of a number of neighborhoods in the previous St. Boniface Ward to the Transcona and St. Vital wards.
- Reassignment of two neighborhoods from the Old Kildonan Ward to the North Kildonan Ward.
- Reassignment of a number of neighborhoods from the previous St. James-Brooklands-Weston Ward to the Point Douglas Ward.
The Commission also realigned several other ward boundaries and established the names of all wards. The overall number of wards has not changed, and remains at 15.

Eligible voters are urged to confirm their ward information and determine the candidates running in their ward by consulting winnipeg.ca/WhereDoIVote. At the polls, eligible voters will receive the appropriate ballot for Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee based on their home address.
Election Day is Wednesday, October 24, 2018 and numerous advance voting opportunities are scheduled throughout the City until October 19. Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballot for the offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee, and answer the following question: “Do you support the opening of Portage and Main to pedestrian crossings?”
