Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 12:00 p.m. January 26, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports that a snowmobile driver had partially broken through the ice on the La Salle River in St. Norbert. With the snowmobile partially submerged, the driver was unable to escape to safety and called 911 from a cell phone.

The WFPS Water Rescue team arrived on scene and using specialized water rescue equipment, was able to bring the driver safely back to shore.

Winnipeg, MB – In recognition of Family Literacy Day, the Winnipeg Public Library will be donating all fines and fees collected at all branches on Saturday, January 26 to The Winnipeg Foundation’s Literacy for Life Fund.

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:10 a.m. on January 23, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 600 block of Maryland Street. Once on scene today, crews found a small fire in the exterior stairwell of the building. It was quickly extinguished, with crews declaring it under control at 9:18 a.m. The fire did not extend into the structure of the building.

Winnipeg, MB - A motion recommending appointments to the newly created Human Rights Committee of Council as well as other City of Winnipeg boards and commissions was adopted at this morning’s Executive Policy Committee (EPC) and submitted for Council’s consideration later this month, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

Winnipeg, MB - A motion to be considered at this morning’s Executive Policy Committee (EPC) will seek to identify the top ten most outdated bylaws or regulations ripe for elimination or revision in order to make doing business in the city more efficient, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“Growing Winnipeg and its economy means attracting new businesses and investment to our city, but it also means supporting existing businesses by finding ways to make it easier and more efficient to do business in, and with, the city,” said Mayor Brian Bowman.

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:20 p.m. on January 21, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 400 block of Maryland Street. This is the same property where a fire occurred last week.

Once on scene today, crews entered the building and launched an interior offensive attack. Due to safety issues however, crews were forced to exit the building and move to a defensive attack. Crews will be using the WFPS unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV or drone) to assist in fighting this fire.

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 10:30 a.m. on January 19, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of an electrical issue in the utility area of a two-storey, multi-family complex in the 800 block of London Street. Once on scene, crews investigated and identified a problem at the main electrical panel. The power was turned off and Manitoba Hydro was called to attend.

Winnipeg, MB – Dawson Road North Fire

At 4:43 p.m. on January 17, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire at an industrial business in the 600 block of Dawson Road North. Once on scene, crews were quickly able to extinguish the fire, keeping it confined to a small area.

One patient was assessed on scene for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
