Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Maryland Street Fire

Released: January 21, 2019 at 4:16 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:20 p.m. on January 21, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 400 block of Maryland Street. This is the same property where a fire occurred last week.

Once on scene today, crews entered the building and launched an interior offensive attack. Due to safety issues however, crews were forced to exit the building and move to a defensive attack. Crews will be using the WFPS unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV or drone) to assist in fighting this fire.

One home immediately neighbouring the building has been evacuated as a precaution.

It is expected that WFPS crews will be on scene well into the evening. Traffic in the area will remain impacted until crews complete their work on scene.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation.
