Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Maryland Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:10 a.m. on January 23, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 600 block of Maryland Street. Once on scene today, crews found a small fire in the exterior stairwell of the building. It was quickly extinguished, with crews declaring it under control at 9:18 a.m. The fire did not extend into the structure of the building.

No injuries were reported. While residents of the building were initially evacuated, the majority of them will be able to return to their suites. One suite suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

After a brief closure, Maryland Street is now open to traffic.
