Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Ashburn Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:15 a.m. on January 15, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single family home in the 900 block of Ashburn Street. Once on scene crews launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was knocked down by 2:38 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Cross Creek Place and St. Jean Baptiste Street Fires

Winnipeg, MB – Cross Creek Place Fire

At approximately 5:50 p.m. on January 13, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a report of a garage fire in a single family home with an attached garage in the 400 block of Cross Creek Place. Upon arrival, crews declared a working fire and initiated an offensive attack. The fire was quickly declared under control at 6:28 p.m. The garage suffered significant fire damage and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage throughout.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Ellice Avenue and Augusta Drive Fires

Winnipeg, MB – Ellice Avenue Fire

At 4:07 a.m. on January 13, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire alarm in a three-storey walk-up apartment complex in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue. Upon arrival, crews encountered occupants of the building self-evacuating through the front and rear doors of the building. Two individuals had evacuated out of windows on the second floor and were clinging to a ledge. Crews quickly used ladders to bring these individuals to safety.

Residential Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted. The City of Winnipeg wishes to thank all Winnipeggers for their patience and cooperation during the Residential Street Parking Ban.

The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Burrows Avenue and Wellington Crescent Fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:26 p.m. on January 9, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single family bungalow in the 500 block of Burrows Avenue. Upon arrival, crews launched an interior, offensive attack, quickly bringing the fire under control by 9:54 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Wellington Crescent Fire

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Wellington Crescent Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 9:38 a.m. on January 9, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire alarm in a single family residence in the 800 block of Wellington Crescent. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire in the basement of the home. An offensive attack was initially launched; however, due to deteriorating conditions and with compromised floors, crews were forced to exit the structure and fight the fire defensively. Heavy equipment was brought in to bring down portions of the house to allow firefighters access to hotspots.

Declared Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB - The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban that was put into effect at 12 a.m., Tuesday, January 8 has now been lifted. The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the annual snow route parking ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1, 2019.

As a reminder, the Residential Parking Ban began this morning at 7 a.m., and runs until Friday, January 11 at 7 p.m. to facilitate a major residential street plowing operation.

City actively working to address Ombudsman's recommendations regarding Handi-Transit service

Winnipeg, MB - Today, the Manitoba Ombudsman’s Office released a report outlining recommendations for Handi-Transit service in response to a complaint filed by the Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC) in February of 2016.

Winnipeg Transit takes the ILRC’s concerns very seriously and is actively working to address the recommendations outlined in the Ombudsman’s report. As a supporting organization of the disabled community, it is a priority for Handi-Transit, now Winnipeg Transit Plus, to provide a service that is accessible to all its clients.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Bowman Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 11:34 p.m. on January 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of smoke in a single family bungalow in the 200 block of Bowman Avenue. Upon arrival, crews found a working fire and launched an interior offensive attack. Due to deteriorating conditions, with heavy fire in the attic area of the home, crews were forced to exit the structure and fight the fire defensively. The fire was declared under control at 1:04 a.m.
