Declared Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight

Winnipeg, MB – In response to recent accumulations of snow, a plowing operation will begin tonight at midnight on main routes, bus routes and collector streets to improve roadway conditions. To facilitate snow clearing on major routes, a Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting at midnight, Tuesday, February 5, 2019.

The Declared Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Grant Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:17 a.m. on February 3, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to an alarm in a two and a half storey apartment complex in the 1000 block of Grant Avenue. Once on scene crews were met with smoke and located a fire in a basement suite. An interior, offensive attack was launched and by 5:32 a.m., the fire was declared under control.

City releases year-end financial update for 2018

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Financial Status Report to December 31, 2018 is reporting a surplus in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $19.5 million. The City’s financial update will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on February 7, 2019.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Balmoral Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:53 p.m. on January 31, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey residence in the 500 block of Balmoral Street. Once on scene crews launched an interior, offensive attack. Initial reports indicated one individual may be trapped in the building but searches by crews verified that all occupants had safely evacuated. The fire was knocked down by 10:23 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: St. Mary Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:42 p.m. on January 31, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire alarm in a 17-storey high-rise apartment complex in the 500 block of St. Mary Avenue. Once on scene, crews located a fire on the 14th floor and declared a second alarm in order to increase the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Bannerman Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:33 a.m. on January 31, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey residence in the 300 block of Bannerman Avenue. Once on scene crews launched an interior, offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:18 a.m.

No occupants were home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Sargent Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:51 a.m. on January 29, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 700 block of Sargent Avenue. Once on scene today, crews found a small fire in one suite. It was quickly extinguished and minimal damage was contained to the single suite.

Approximately 10 residents of the building were evacuated for a short time while crews worked to extinguish the fire and ventilate the building. No injuries were reported.
