Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Arrowwood Drive South Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:55 p.m. on February 11, 2019 Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a monitored fire alarm in a two-storey, single family home in the 0-100 block of Arrowwood Drive South. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke on the main floor. Using an interior, offensive attack they were quickly able to extinguish the fire, declaring it under control at 2:25 p.m.

The sole occupant of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. WFPS crews located and rescued two cats from the residence. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Taylor Avenue, Main Street Fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:08 a.m. on February 11, 2019 Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire alarm in a 10-storey high-rise apartment complex in the 1300 block of Taylor Avenue. Once on scene, crews witnessed flames coming from a 9th floor balcony and declared a second alarm in order to increase the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene.

Hamilton Meadows Drive Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:03 p.m. on February 10, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire a two-storey, single family residence in the 0-100 block of Hamilton Meadows Drive. Once on scene crews found a well-involved fire extending from the attached garage into the home.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Portage Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:57 a.m. on February 10, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in commercial strip mall in the 900 block of Portage Avenue. Once on scene crews found smoke coming from the eaves of the building. An interior, offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly knocked down, thanks in part to the building’s sprinkler system which helped control the fire before crews’ arrival. The fire was knocked down at 8:13 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Aberdeen Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:30 p.m. on February 8, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey residence in the 400 block of Aberdeen Avenue. Once on scene crews found the fire well involved with thick smoke throughout the home. An interior, offensive attack was launched however deteriorating conditions forced crews to retreat and fight the fire defensively.

All occupants fire were able to self-evacuate prior to WFPS crews arrival. No injuries were reported.

Upcoming closure of northbound and southbound Pembina Highway between Jubilee Avenue and Stafford Street from February 15 - 19

Winnipeg, MB – Northbound and southbound Pembina Highway between Jubilee Avenue and Stafford Street will be completely closed to vehicular traffic over the third weekend in February to facilitate installation of girders for the new Transitway over the Pembina Bridge. The closure will commence at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 15, and continue until 4 a.m. the following Tuesday, February 19. Construction will take place around-the-clock during the closure.

Roadway access for Winnipeg Transit and emergency vehicles will be maintained during the closure.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Logan Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 4:25 p.m. on February 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey residence in the 1300 block of Logan Avenue. Once on scene crews found the fire well involved with flames coming from the side of the home. An interior, offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:47 p.m.

The sole occupant of the home at the time of the fire was able to self-evacuate prior to WFPS crews arrival. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Downtown Gas Leak

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 11:30 a.m. on February 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a high volume gas leak in the downtown area. Crews have evacuated 360 Main Street, 220 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg Square and the entire west side of Fort Street between Graham Avenue and Portage Avenue.

At this time, gas is venting safely into the atmosphere. WFPS crews continue to monitor levels in all nearby locations. Manitoba Hydro is working to close gas valves to the area in order to complete the necessary repairs.
