Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: College Avenue Fire

Released: April 7, 2019 at 9:07 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:00 p.m. on April 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey home in the 500 block of College Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames and determined the fire had also extended to a neighbouring residential side-by-side home. Crews extinguished the fire using a defensive attack. Both homes suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The home where the fire originated was vacant, having previously been damaged by fire in 2017. Occupants of the duplex self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. The occupants of one additional home were also evacuated as a precaution, but allowed to return once crews extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
