Winnipeg, MB – At 6:00 p.m. on April 7, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey home in the 500 block of College Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames and determined the fire had also extended to a neighbouring residential side-by-side home. Crews extinguished the fire using a defensive attack. Both homes suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:30 a.m. on April 6, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a single family bungalow in the 600 block of Toronto Street. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke and launched an interior offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11 a.m. The home suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:04 a.m. on April 6, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey home in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue. Once on scene, crews found a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames. An interior, offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 1:49 a.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has learned that employees represented by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1505 have voted to reject the City’s contract offer.

“While the result of the vote is disappointing, the City remains committed to finding a solution that is fair and reasonable to all parties, including ATU members and Winnipeg taxpayers,” said Michael Jack, Chief Corporate Services Officer.

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:10 p.m. on April 4, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 300 block of Johnson Avenue West. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke and launched an interior, offensive attack, quickly extinguishing the fire. Damage was contained to a single suite.

Occupants of the building were evacuated by crews but were able to return to their suites once the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:42 p.m. on April 3, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant mixed use, commercial and residential building in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue. Once on scene, crews found a well-involved fire and launched an interior, offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:30 p.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:14 a.m. on April 3, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant three-storey walk-up apartment building in the 400 block of William Avenue. Once on scene, crews launched a defensive attack but later, once conditions improved, moved to an interior offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:50 a.m.

Crews completed a full search of the structure and no occupants were found. The home on the east side of the building was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:26 a.m. on April 1, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant single-storey bungalow in the 200 block of Union Avenue West. The same house had been damaged by fire in September 2018.

Once on scene this morning, crews launched an interior offensive attack, and the fire was declared extinguished at 5:34 a.m. A search of the structure was completed and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:32 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a mixed use, commercial, and residential structure in the 1400 block of Main Street. Once on scene, crews launched an interior offensive attack, very quickly bringing the fire under control. The suite where the fire occurred suffered fire, smoke, and water damage.

Occupants were able to self-evacuate prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
