Winnipeg, MB ‒ It’s time to lace up your walking shoes or dig out your swimsuit because the City of Winnipeg will once again be providing free access to City-run aquatic and recreation facilities during scheduled public use times for National Health and Fitness Day on June 1, 2019.

Marked on the first Saturday in June, National Health and Fitness Day provides an opportunity to embrace healthy physical activity. The City is encouraging all residents to use local health, recreational, sports, and fitness facilities.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Burrows Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:28 p.m. on May 28, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a one and half storey, single-family home in the 700 block of Burrows Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the windows of the home and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared extinguished at 7:50 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Spring clean-up complete

Winnipeg, MB - The City's spring cleaning of streets, sidewalks, boulevards, and parks is now complete.

The Public Works Department thanks residents for their cooperation while cleaning operations were underway.

Emergency Paramedics in the Community (EPIC) program to expand

Winnipeg, MB Access to primary health care services for some of Winnipeg’s most vulnerable and chronically ill residents will soon increase as a second Emergency Paramedics in the Community (EPIC) unit is added, announced the City of Winnipeg and Shared Health earlier today.

Mayor Bowman to Represent Winnipeg on National and International Stages

Winnipeg, MB – Mayor Brian Bowman will be traveling to Quebec City later today to participate in the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Annual Conference and Big City Mayors’ Caucus Meetings (BCMC), and to Normandy, France in June to represent Winnipeg at events marking the 75th anniversary of the battle of Normandy.

Annual road construction season gets underway

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s annual road construction season is getting underway this spring and a road construction working group has been tasked with considering and recommending ways the City can improve the overall road construction process including greater utilization of 24/7 construction, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

Logan Avenue Fire

At 1:15 a.m. on May 27, 2019, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey industrial building in the 2000 block of Logan Avenue. Upon arrival on scene crews encountered heavy black smoke coming from the structure. Crews initially deployed a defensive strategy but after venting some of the smoke, were able to transition to an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 2:43 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Alfred Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:59 p.m. on May 26, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of smoke coming from the backyard of a single family bungalow in the 1000 block of Alfred Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews confirmed it was not an outdoor fire but a working house fire. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:26 a.m. The home suffered significant damage.

No one was home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Beeston Way Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:04 p.m. on May 25, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 0-100 block of Beeston Way. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the windows of the home and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:46 p.m. While the flames were contained to one room, the suite suffered significant smoke and water damage throughout.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
