Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Manitoba Avenue and wildland fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two and a half storey house in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered heavy flames and smoke. An offensive attack and search of the home was launched. Crews located one individual deceased inside of the house. A deceased cat was also found.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update 2: Wildland fires

Winnipeg, MB – It is the responsibility of all residents to help prevent wildland fires. These types of fires can spread very quickly and pose extreme dangers. They also require a large amount of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) resources. Today, WFPS apparatus were rotated in and out all day to fight a number of significant wildland fires which threatened homes and property.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a number of grass and brush fires yesterday, May 31, 2019.

Midland Street
At 3:29 p.m. crews responded to a small grass fire near Midland Street. There were no injuries reported and there was no damage to any structures.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Eagleridge Court Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:23 p.m. on May 31, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a fire in a two storey, single-family home in the 0-100 block of Eagleridge Court. Upon arrival on scene, crews found one side of the house engulfed in flames. A defensive attack was initially launched and once it was safe to do so, crews transitioned to an offensive strategy. The fire was declared under control at 3:49 p.m. The home suffered substantial fire, smoke and water damage.

Pride Winnipeg: Downtown road closures

Winnipeg, MB – Portions of Winnipeg’s Downtown street network will be closed Sunday, June 2 for the annual Pride Winnipeg parade and festival.

Memorial Boulevard will be completely closed between Broadway and York Avenue from 6 a.m. through 1 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds residents to follow fire prevention strategies

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is reminding residents to follow important fire prevention strategies to reduce the risk of wildland, grass, and brush fires. In Winnipeg, these types of fires are typically wind-driven ground fires involving grass, brush, and dead plant matter which can spread quickly. Last year alone, WFPS fought 228 grass, brush, and wildland fires within City limits, many which damaged property and threatened structures. So far in 2019, crews have already fought 73 wildland fires.

City releases Unfunded Major Capital Projects Detail

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg released its Unfunded Major Capital Project Detail document. The document provides a summary of current information on 22 major capital projects being proposed by the City, which address various infrastructure requirements over the next 10 years (2019-2028).The document will be presented at the meeting of the Executive Policy Committee on June 11, 2019.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Allegheny Drive Wildland Fire

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service battled its second significant wildland fire today. At 7:36 p.m. crews responded to reports of a grass and brush fire in the rear of the 800 block of Allegheny Drive. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a large fire, roughly 20 metres by 200 metres in size. Using specialized wildland-urban interface equipment and the WFPS drone, crews were able to attack the fire, while protecting a nearby school, homes, and other structures. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:35 p.m. on May 30 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a grass and brush fire near the area of Municipal Road and Rannock Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a large fire, roughly 45 metres in diameter. Using specialized wildland-urban interface equipment and the WFPS drone, crews were able to attack the fire, while protecting nearby homes and structures. The fire was declared under control at 3:04 p.m.
