Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Manitoba Avenue and wildland fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two and a half storey house in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered heavy flames and smoke. An offensive attack and search of the home was launched. Crews located one individual deceased inside of the house. A deceased cat was also found.

Two other occupants had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One was assessed by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital in stable condition. No additional injuries were reported.

The fire was declared under control at 11:17 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Killarney Street
At 9:55 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, WFPS crews responded to reports of a brush fire in the 100 block of Killarney Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews reported the fire was starting to spread. Crews quickly worked to contain and extinguish it.

Assiniboine Forrest Fire
WFPS crews remain on scene fighting the wildland fire in the Assiniboine Forest. They worked to extinguish hotspots and protect homes in the vicinity through the night. It is expected they will continue fighting this fire throughout the day.
