Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: McGee Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:43 p.m. on July 2, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey, six-unit apartment residence on McGee Street. Upon arrival on scene crews found fire on the third floor and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:08 p.m.

Winnipeggers invited to 13th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival on July 21 at the Living Prairie Museum

Winnipeg, MB – Residents are invited to attend the Living Prairie Museum’s 13th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival, from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.

This free event has many activities for all ages, including presentations by local scientists, storytelling, displays of live monarchs, crafts, guided hikes, a native prairie plant sale, and much more.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Lorne Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:27 a.m. on July 2, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single storey, multi-family residence on Lorne Avenue. Upon arrival, on scene crews encountered smoke coming from the windows and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 9:10 a.m.

All seven occupants of the residence self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One cat was located and brought to safety by firefighters. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Balmoral Street Fire and Victor Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 12:00 a.m. on July 1, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one and a half storey house in the 200 block of Balmoral Street. The house had been vacant since a previous fire last year. Once on scene, crews encountered smoke and flames and initiated an offensive attack. The fire was declared extinguished at 12:48 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

T-33 jet soars over Woodhaven Park again

Winnipeg, MB – The RCAF jet that was originally gifted to the City of St. James and displayed in Woodhaven Park to commemorate Canada’s Centennial in 1967 has been restored to its new glory. The recently refurbished and repainted aircraft has been remounted on its concrete pedestal in Woodhaven Park and accompanied by an informational panel honouring the Red Knight aerobatic program, its pilots and the aerobatic performances of Brigadier-General Bill Slaughter who piloted a similar jet as a flight officer in the 1963/1964 season.

New washrooms now open to the public in La Barriere Park

Winnipeg, MB – The newly constructed four season washrooms located in La Barriere Park are now open to the public. The new washroom facility replaces the original seasonal public washrooms, which were constructed in the mid-1960s.

Eastbound Higgins Avenue between Princess Street and King Street temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB – Higgins Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic, from Princess Street to King Street, starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2 until August 16 for street construction and maintenance.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north sidewalk.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and to plan for additional travel time to reach their destinations.
