Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Balmoral Street Fire and Victor Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 12:00 a.m. on July 1, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one and a half storey house in the 200 block of Balmoral Street. The house had been vacant since a previous fire last year. Once on scene, crews encountered smoke and flames and initiated an offensive attack. The fire was declared extinguished at 12:48 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Victor Street Fire

At approximately 12:50 a.m. on July 1, 2019, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 400 block of Victor Street. Once on scene crews found a well involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews initiated a defensive fire attack due as the volume of fire made it unsafe for crews to enter the structure. An aerial ladder truck was used, allowing for elevated water streams to help in extinguishing the fire. It was declared under control at 2:52 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time however the house is expected to be a complete loss.
