Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Jarvis Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 12:43 a.m. on July 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a large commercial and industrial building at 274 Jarvis Avenue. Most of the building collapsed as crews fought the fire this morning.

Heavy machinery has been brought in and the remainder of the building is being demolished as the remaining structure is unstable and at-risk of further collapse. Demolition will also expose hot spots for crews to extinguish.

City and ATU Reach an Impasse on Negotiations

Winnipeg, MB - After more than six months of bargaining, offering the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1505 (ATU) multiple proposals, and requesting provincial conciliation support, the City of Winnipeg has now officially notified the union they are at an impasse.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Carriage Road Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 12:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey apartment complex in the 100 block of Carriage Road. The first crew to arrive on scene encountered heavy smoke coming from one of the suites. Two occupants of the suite were located and brought to safety while the crews quickly initiated an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 12:52 a.m. with damage being contained to the suite of origin.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Jarvis Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 12:43 a.m. on July 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm in an industrial building at 274 Jarvis Avenue. Once on scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire. Initially an offensive attack was initiated but after approximately 40 minutes conditions were rapidly deteriorating and crews were ordered to evacuate. Eight nearby residences were also evacuated. Winnipeg Transit provided a bus to shelter the evacuees.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - At 5:37 a.m. on July 21, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a request for assistance with severe flooding in a building in the 1000 block of Portage Avenue.

Once on scene, crews were unable to shut off the water to the building and called for assistance from the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department. As the flooding was progressing quickly, and threatening the electrical supply Manitoba Hydro was also called to assist.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Hector Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 6 a.m. on July 19, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in single family bungalow in the 700 block of Hector Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the soffits of the house. An offensive attack was launched and crews declared the fire under control at 6:26 a.m. The home suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Crews completed a search of the home and no occupants were found. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Simcoe Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:55 a.m. on July 18, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 600 block of Simcoe Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke coming from the windows of one of the suites. An offensive attack was launched and crews were able to keep the fire contained to the suite of origin. It was declared under control at 8:04 a.m.

Multiple overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a number of fires overnight. The first call came in at 2:58 a.m. reporting a fire in the rear of the 500 block of Furby Street. Crews responded and extinguished a rubbish fire.

Then at 3:08 a.m., crews responded to another call indicating a fire to the rear of 550 Furby Street. Once on scene, crews found a two-car garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire was declared under control at 3:51 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Berry Street Gas Leak & Main Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:05 p.m. on July 16, 2019, Manitoba Hydro requested the attendance of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) to a gas leak in the 600 block of Berry Street. Once on scene, WFPS crews oversaw the evacuation of the impacted building, as well as neighbouring buildings.

Manitoba Hydro was quickly able to locate and crimp off the underground leak. WFPS crews remained on scene until this work was completed. The cause of the leak is not known at this time.

No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Gordon Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:05 a.m. on July 15, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a one and a half storey, single family home in the 100 block of Gordon Avenue. Once on scene, crews initiated an offensive attack on the fire, which was primarily located in the attic area of the home. The fire was declared under control at 8:47 a.m. The house suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
