Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Berry Street Gas Leak & Main Street Fire

Berry Street Gas Leak

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:05 p.m. on July 16, 2019, Manitoba Hydro requested the attendance of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) to a gas leak in the 600 block of Berry Street. Once on scene, WFPS crews oversaw the evacuation of the impacted building, as well as neighbouring buildings.

Manitoba Hydro was quickly able to locate and crimp off the underground leak. WFPS crews remained on scene until this work was completed. The cause of the leak is not known at this time.

No injuries were reported.

Main Street Fire

At 2:44 p.m. on July 16, 2019, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey building in the 800 block of Main Street. Once on scene, crews encountered black smoke coming from the windows of one of the suites and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:05 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
