Multiple overnight fires

Released: July 17, 2019 at 8:06 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a number of fires overnight. The first call came in at 2:58 a.m. reporting a fire in the rear of the 500 block of Furby Street. Crews responded and extinguished a rubbish fire.

Then at 3:08 a.m., crews responded to another call indicating a fire to the rear of 550 Furby Street. Once on scene, crews found a two-car garage fully engulfed in flames. The fire was declared under control at 3:51 a.m.

At 3:10, WFPS received a report of a fire in a three storey apartment building in the 400 block of Furby Street – the same building where a fire occurred earlier this month. Crews evacuated the building and initiated an offensive attack, bringing the fire under control by 3:30 a.m. Occupants of the building were able to return to their suites once the fire was extinguished.

At 4:18 a.m. crews responded to another garbage fire, this time in the 500 block of McGee Street. And then, just minutes later, at 4:24 a.m., a fire was reported on the exterior of a home in the 600 block of Agnes Street. That fire was quickly knocked down but crews then discovered two separate garbage fires on the same block.

No injuries were reported as a result of these seven fires.

All incidents are under investigation but are considered suspicious. Anyone with any information is asked to call Winnipeg Police Service.
