Change your clock, change your smoke and carbon monoxide alarm batteries

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 2 a.m., the clocks will "spring ahead" one hour marking the start of daylight saving time. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) reminds residents to take a moment to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace their alarms’ batteries when adjusting their clocks for this weekend's time change.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Nairn Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:39 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 1000 block of Nairn Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a localized fire within a wall. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was quickly extinguished.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to carbon monoxide exposure on Parkhill Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:41 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of a carbon monoxide alarm activating in a single-family home in the 700 block of Parkhill Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they conducted air quality testing and found carbon monoxide within the home.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival after being alerted by a carbon monoxide alarm. Paramedics transported three patients to hospital in stable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Main Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:35 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 800 block of Main Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 7:58 p.m.

Crews searched the building and assisted two individuals out of the building. Paramedics assessed and transported one individual to hospital in stable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on El Tassi Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:01 p.m. on February 27, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an automatic fire alarm in a four-storey apartment block in the first block of El Tassi Drive. Once on scene, crews launched an offensive fire attack, quickly bringing the fire under control. The building’s sprinkler system limited fire extension until crews arrived.

Occupants of the building self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service releases its 2020 Strategic Direction

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) has developed a strategic direction based on three foundational reports to help ensure current and future service demands are met. The 2020 Strategic Direction will be presented at the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks (SPC-PCS) on March 4, 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Multiple overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB –The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a number of fires this evening. The first call came in at 8:49 p.m. reporting a fire in the rear of the 400 block of Mountain Avenue. Crews responded and extinguished a garage fire.

A second garage fire to the rear of the 500 block of College Avenue was reported at 9:11 p.m. This fire was also knocked down quickly.

At 9:41 a fire in an attached garage in a home in the 700 block of Redwood Avenue was reported. This fire was declared under control at 9:58 p.m.

Temporary closure of Dugald Road on Tuesday, February 25

Winnipeg, MB – Dugald Road between Borden Avenue and McFadden Avenue will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, due to urgent water main work.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Stradbrook Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:56 a.m. on February 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 300 block of Stradbrook Avenue. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with an apartment complex.
