Winnipeg, MB – At 11:56 a.m. on February 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment complex in the 300 block of Stradbrook Avenue. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with an apartment complex.
Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke and launched an investigation. They located a fire on the second floor and launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:40 p.m. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single suite. That suite suffered significant, fire, smoke, and water damage. Other suites in the building sustained water and smoke damage.
All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated after being alerted to the fire by a working smoke alarm. Paramedics assessed two patients on scene and neither patient was transported to hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
