Released: June 29, 2020 at 5:16 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:26 p.m. on June 29, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in the three-storey apartment block in the 500 block of Furby Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy black smoke in the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly brought under control, contained to the suite of origin. Crews then worked to ventilate the smoke from the rest of the building.

Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated the building. All of them, with the exception of those from the suite where the fire occurred, are expected to be able to return to their suites once crews complete their work. One firefighter was assessed on scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.
