Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on Flora Avenue

Released: July 2, 2020 at 9:43 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:54 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 300 block of Flora Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. The fire extended to the adjacent home creating a secondary fire. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring both fires under control at 7:27 p.m. Extremely hot weather conditions created a high risk of heat exhaustion and a rotating crew strategy was used to ensure the crews’ health and safety while on scene.

Crews searched the home and no occupants were located. No injuries were reported. The adjacent home sustained damage from the heat of the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are currently available.
