Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a gas leak on Lindenwood Drive West

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a gas leak in the 300 block of Lindenwood Drive West.

When crews arrived on scene, they recorded high levels of natural gas in the vicinity of the leak, near an area under construction. WFPS crews evacuated seven nearby homes. Manitoba Hydro attended the scene to stop the leak and ensure the surrounding area was safe to re-enter.

This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “serve up fire safety in the kitchen.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Marshall Crescent

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:20 a.m. on October 4, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the first 100 block of Marshall Crescent.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house and launched and offensive attack. Crews switched to a defensive strategy as conditions deteriorated and the fire was declared under control at 10:16 a.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Main Street and Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020, the the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a commercial building in the 900 block of Main Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:24 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Toronto Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:24 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 700-block of Toronto Street.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:04 a.m.

Crews searched the building to confirm there were no occupants inside. No injuries were reported.

Public advised of potential COVID-19 exposure on Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated a bus passenger who has since tested positive for COVID-19 rode Transit on two occasions.

On Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24, the individual rode route 10, boarding the bus at Provencher Boulevard and Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and exiting at Portage Avenue at Donald Street. The individual then transferred to a route 14 bus, exiting at Ellice Avenue at Simcoe Street. The individual travelled on both days between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Salter Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:02 a.m. on October 2, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 300 block of Salter Street.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house and launched and offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:37 a.m.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews, and no injuries were reported.

City recognizes park improvements at Hazelwood Crescent Park

Winnipeg, MB – Mayor Brian Bowman and Councillor Brian Mayes participated in a ribbon cutting today to recognize park improvements at Hazelwood Crescent Park in the St. Vital ward. The project included enhancing safety in the park’s play area and improving access to the site.
