Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to gas leak on Warde Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:34 a.m. on October 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a gas leak in the 600 block of Warde Avenue. The leak was the result of a contractor damaging a gas line while working in the area.

When crews arrived on scene, they determined gas was leaking into the sewer system and a nearby seniors’ residence. WFPS crews immediately began the evacuation of the building. Winnipeg Transit buses were deployed to the scene to provide shelter for evacuated residents.

Southbound Gateway Road between Prince Rupert Avenue and Government Avenue temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB – Southbound Gateway Road between Prince Rupert Avenue and Government Avenue is temporarily closed for a sewer repair.

Motorists must use alternate routes while this road closure is in place.

City asks for public feedback to update the multi-year budget

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to take part in the multi-year budget 2021 update by sharing what they value most and how that may have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The City of Winnipeg’s multi-year budget provides a plan for the City’s revenue and expenses from 2020-2023. This plan gives the City a blueprint for spending over four years. The multi-year budget process allows for flexibility because each year, the budget has to be approved by City Council.

City extending temporary patio program through winter

Winter operation of temporary patios will be available with additional operating requirements

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is making temporary patio registration available to eligible businesses through the winter with new operating requirements. Current temporary patio registrations submitted for the summer patio season will extend until October 31, 2020. New winter patio registrations will be accepted as of October 14, 2020 and will be in effect from November 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021.

The development of the strategy, which includes a robust research process, technical analysis, and conversations with Winnipeggers, is crucial and timely; Winnipeg’s urban forest faces both significant loss due to insects and disease, and pressure from climate change and urban development.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Loudoun Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:49 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire on a commercial property in the 1300 block of Loudoun Road.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy flames and smoke coming from two commercial buildings. Crews first launched a defensive attack and then transitioned to an offensive attack using water tankers to shuttle water to the scene, as the fire was outside the City of Winnipeg water district.
