Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Boulton Bay

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:58 p.m. on October 1, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire alarm in a six-storey high-rise apartment block on Boulton Bay. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on scene, due to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke on one of the upper floors of the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly knocked down and smoke ventilated from the building.

Upcoming temporary closure: Weston Street

Winnipeg, MB – Weston Street between Logan Avenue and Alexander Avenue will be closed to all traffic at 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 3 to accommodate construction.

The road is scheduled to reopen later the same day, at 11 p.m.

Temporary closure of Arlington Bridge extended

Winnipeg, MB – The current closure of the Arlington Bridge has been extended to Monday, October 12.

The bridge was originally scheduled to reopen Monday, October 5

Pedestrian access will continue to be maintained through the closure, which will end at 6 a.m. on October 12.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes such as the McPhillips Street Underpass or Slaw Rebchuk Bridge to reach their destinations.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:40 p.m. on September 30, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a bungalow in the 700 block of Redwood Avenue.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke in the house and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly knocked down.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Union Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:03 a.m. on September 30, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 200 block of Union Avenue West.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:22 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Upcoming temporary closures: Corydon Avenue and Stafford Street

Winnipeg, MB – Two busy streets in the Grant Park area will close this weekend to accommodate road work.

Corydon Avenue

Westbound Corydon Avenue, from Stafford Street to Thurso St., will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. on Friday, October 2 until 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 for road work.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Grant Avenue and Academy Road during this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Alfred Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:17 a.m. on September 30, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared knocked down at 1:40 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

City to assess and collect penalties and interest for late payments of various fees and fines

Winnipeg, MB – Effective October 1, 2020, the City of Winnipeg will begin assessing and collecting penalties and interest for late payments of various fees and fines, including for ambulance bills, parking tickets, and water bills, among others. This does not apply to penalties for unpaid property and business taxes, as these can still be paid late until November 30, 2020 without penalty.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Burrows Avenue and Langside Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:58 a.m. on September 29, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a house fire in the 700 block of Burrows Avenue. The fire was reported by members flying in the Winnipeg Police Service’s Air1 helicopter. While waiting on arrival of WFPS crews, AIR1 members used their air siren to alert area residents of danger.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered flames and heavy smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 3:20 a.m.
