Public invited to provide input into the development of the Winnipeg Urban Forest Strategy

Released: October 8, 2020 at 10:21 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to provide input into the Winnipeg Urban Forest Strategy – a long-term planning document that will guide the protection, preservation, and management of the city’s tree canopy.

The development of the strategy, which includes a robust research process, technical analysis, and conversations with Winnipeggers, is crucial and timely; Winnipeg’s urban forest faces both significant loss due to insects and disease, and pressure from climate change and urban development.

Residents are invited to provide feedback online through a survey, discussion forum, and interactive mapping tool. In addition, online presentations will be held whereby participants can learn more about the current state of our urban forest and discuss a vision for the future.

Residents are also encouraged to participate in a self-guided walking tour or virtual tour, available until November 1, 2020, to explore Winnipeg’s urban forest and provide input on the Winnipeg Urban Forest Strategy.

What we hear in Phase 1 will guide the development of a community vision for Winnipeg’s urban forest and help identify opportunities to protect, grow, and enhance it to form the draft urban forest strategy we will discuss in Phase 2.
