Winnipeg, MB – At 9:34 a.m. on October 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a gas leak in the 600 block of Warde Avenue. The leak was the result of a contractor damaging a gas line while working in the area.

When crews arrived on scene, they determined gas was leaking into the sewer system and a nearby seniors’ residence. WFPS crews immediately began the evacuation of the building. Winnipeg Transit buses were deployed to the scene to provide shelter for evacuated residents.

Manitoba Hydro is on scene to repair the leak. All evacuees have been able to return to their suites. No injuries have been reported.
