Elm Bark Beetle Control Program Begins

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Elm Bark Beetle Control Program will begin Monday, September 13, 2021, weather permitting.

The program intends to reduce the spread of Dutch Elm Disease (DED) by controlling the beetles that carry the disease.

Temporary closure of Saskatchewan Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – Saskatchewan Avenue from Midland Street to Empress Street will fully close for emergency water work. The closure will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 11 and is expected to last until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 17.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Cairnsmore Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:46 a.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey, single-family house in the 400 block of Cairnsmore Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack, bringing the fire under control at 4:32 a.m.

Winnipeg's Indigenous Accord welcomes new partners in commitment to the Journey of Reconciliation

Winnipeg, MB – Today, 39 additional local organizations, businesses, groups, and individuals joined the City of Winnipeg and the other 161 signatories in their commitment to the ongoing Journey of Reconciliation in Winnipeg by formally becoming partners of Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord at a signing ceremony held at City Hall. Today’s signatories bring the total number of Accord partners to 200 and demonstrates a strong community commitment to Winnipeg’s Journey of Reconciliation.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy black smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 8:42 a.m.

As the co-founder of the recently opened Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, Winnipeg has lost a tremendous community champion who leaves a legacy of healing for generations to come. The Bruce Oake Recovery Centre will have a lasting, positive impact on our city and I am grateful for the tireless efforts put in by Anne, Scott and Darcy Oake to see it come to fruition. Winnipeggers invited to weigh in on draft road safety action plan

Winnipeg, MB – With road safety top-of-mind as kids throughout Winnipeg return to school, the City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to provide feedback on a long-term action plan to make local streets safer for all users.

The third and final phase of engagement on the Road Safety Strategic Action Plan project launches today, allowing Winnipeggers the chance hear about the City’s road safety vision and goal and share thoughts on a series of draft focus areas and actions that will shape the City’s efforts to prevent serious injury and death on our roads.
