Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Young Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Young Street.

When crews arrived, they encountered heavy black smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 8:42 a.m.

One patient was treated on-scene by paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. All other occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No other injuries were reported.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was deployed to the incident to assist 23 displaced residents in finding alternate accommodations.

The building sustained significant damage. No damage estimates are available at this time. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
