Public Invited to Participate in Seine River Stabilization Information Session

Released: October 26, 2017 at 2:10 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public information session on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, regarding the Seine River Stabilization project planned to take place near the corner of Notre Dame Street and Maisonneuve Street in North St. Boniface. Residents will have the opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions, and talk with project team members.

Stabilizing the bank is necessary to keep the Branch 1 Aqueduct safe and ensure a continued supply of water to Winnipeg residents. Construction will take place from winter to summer 2018. Roadworks will also be taking place at this location in summer 2018.

The Branch 1 Aqueduct is a 100-year-old pipe that crosses under the Seine River and carries approximately 40% of the City’s treated water. The banks of the Seine River at the Aqueduct crossing are vulnerable to movement. The City has monitored this area for a number of years. Recent monitoring has revealed that stabilization of the bank is now required as any further movement could damage the Aqueduct.
