Firearms – Arrest: C22-29072

On February 10, 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Gables Court (Kildare-Redonda neighbourhood) in relation to a firearms investigation.

A search of the residence revealed a loaded .22 calibre rifle with an obliterated serial number.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-28173

On February 9, 2022, at approximately 3:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Garry Street, where two people were injured during a shooting.

Officers located an injured adult male and provided him with emergency medical care. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

A second adult male was dropped off at a hospital and admitted in critical condition and has succumbed to their injuries.

Homicide – Arrest: C22-12105

As previously released:

On January 17, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., General Patrol members from the North District responded for suspicious circumstances reported at an apartment in the 800 block of Main Street.

Officers located a seriously injured male and provided emergency medical care. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Statement Regarding Vaccine Mandate Protest

The Winnipeg Police Service has a long history of overseeing large, planned and unplanned events. We have managed crowds where thousands have gathered in our downtown. On occasion, large unplanned events with a broad range of causes occur, but being responsive to the community, we work to balance the rights of all involved. This often shows itself with WPS resources supporting an event that may not be supported by a parade permit or respective legislation.

Damage to Vehicles – Arrest: C22-7901

Between December 2021 and February 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service received dozens of similar damage reports regarding vehicles parked in the city's West District (predominately in Fort Garry and St. James).

General Patrol and Community Support officers established that rows of vehicles had their windows smashed out while parked along the road during this timeframe.

The Major Crimes Unit entered into a follow-up investigation and identified a suspect.

Hit & Run – Arrest: C22-25202 Update:

Charges have been laid in the Hit & Run, which had previously been released on February 5.

David Alexander ZEGARAC, 42, of Headingly, Manitoba, has been charged with:
- Assault with Weapon x 4
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Cause Bodily Harm x 2
- Fail to Stop After Accident Knowing That Reckless CBH x 2
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident x 2
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance

He was detained in custody.

Hit & Run – Arrest: C22-25202

On February 4, 2022, at 9:50 p.m., Winnipeg Police were advised of a motor vehicle collision near Broadway and Memorial Boulevard. The initial information was that a westbound Jeep Patriot had driven through a group of protesters that were part of the Freedom Convoy at the Legislative grounds.

The Jeep fled west down Portage Avenue, where numerous witnesses reported it travelling at high speeds and passing through red lights.

Scam/Fraud – Public Advisory

The Winnipeg Police Service has received a number of reports of a scam targeting local phone numbers.

A scammer will call a victim purporting to be a Winnipeg Police Service officer with a fictitious badge number. They will then be told that their financial card has been compromised and often that someone is in custody concerning the fraud.

Firearm and Drug Offences – Arrest: C22-24317

During the evening of February 3, 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Central District Community Support Unit, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Collegiate Street.

A number of items were seized, including the following:

Homicide – Investigation: C22-23528

On February 2, 2022, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol responded to a report of Suspicious Circumstances at an apartment block located in the 400 block of Furby Street. Responding officers discovered the body of a deceased female.

The victim has been identified as Heather Marie Cheyane BEARDY, 26.
