Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Morley Avenue and Leila Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two house fires this evening.

Morley Avenue Fire

At 4:09 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, 2021, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in single-family bungalow in the first 100 block of Morley Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the house. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:13 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Preliminary 2022 Balanced Budget Update proposes significant mode shift investments that will help transform Winnipeg Transit while continuing to prioritize active transportation.

City releases Financial Status and Forecast Report to October 31, 2021

Report shows an improvement in financial forecast but City still anticipates requiring use of Financial Stabilization Reserve Fund at year-end

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s financial status and forecast report to October 31, 2021 discloses a projected deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $13.5 million and an additional shortfall of $6.8 million in Transit. This financial status and forecast report will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on December 9, 2021.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Winter 2022 Leisure Guide, Leisure Guide Skating brochure, and Leisure Guide Swimming brochure are now available for viewing online. Registration for all winter activities begins Tuesday, December 14 at 8 a.m. for Winnipeg residents, and Thursday, December 16 at 8 a.m. for non-residents.

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:26 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, mixed-use commercial/residential building in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found smoke coming from a suite. They launched an offensive attack, quickly declaring the fire under control at 3:41 p.m.

Enhancements to the permits system will help support new development and drive economic growth

Winnipeg, MB – The Preliminary 2022 Balanced Budget Update proposes significant enhancements to the permits system, which will help to support new development and drive economic growth.

“As Winnipeg begins its multi-year recovery from the global pandemic, new development will help to drive economic growth,” said Cindy Gilroy, Chairperson of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development. “These enhancements will help ensure the City’s permits system is processing permit applications effectively and efficiently.”

Residential Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted; the City of Winnipeg thanks all Winnipeggers for their patience and cooperation. The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban takes effect at 2 a.m. on December 1, 2021.

Alternative Response to Citizens in Crisis (ARCC) pilot project announced

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg (City), Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), and Shared Health’s Crisis Response Centre announced a new pilot project that will offer support to those experiencing mental health crises in Winnipeg. The program, called Alternative Response to Citizens in Crisis (ARCC) will launch in December.

Annual Snow Route Parking Ban begins December 1

Parking will be prohibited on snow routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg's Annual Snow Route Parking Ban will take effect at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Motorists are reminded to not park their vehicles on streets designated as snow routes between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. until the ban lifts on Monday, February 28, 2022.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Langside Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:38 p.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in an unoccupied, two-storey house in the 500 block of Langside Street.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke coming from the house. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:34 p.m. A fire watch was established to help prevent re-ignition.

A search of the building was completed and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.
