City of Winnipeg: Flood Bulletin #1

Winnipeg, MB – Last Friday, the Province of Manitoba released its latest update on potential spring flooding. Based on weather conditions and current flows, it downgraded its previous forecast, tracking now towards 2017 levels.

The peak Red River level in Winnipeg at James Avenue is expected to range from 15.5 to 20 feet, depending on future weather conditions. The forecasted river levels are below the level of the City of Winnipeg’s flood protection infrastructure, and the City is well prepared to deal with the upcoming water levels.

Update: Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Turnbull Drive

Winnipeg, MB – As reported earlier today, at 4:53 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 100 block of Turnbull Drive. Due to safety concerns, crews were not able to access the fire offensively and launched a defensive attack using an aerial ladder and hand lines.

Upcoming temporary road closures

Winnipeg, MB – There are three temporary road closures in effect in the coming days on Ellice Avenue, Prairie Grove Road, and Marion Street.

  • Ellice Avenue, from Sherbrook Street to Furby Street, will be temporarily closed on Saturday, March 26 at 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. for a special event.

  • Prairie Grove Road, from Four Mile Road to Sioux Road, will be temporarily closed on Sunday, March 27 from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. for railway crossing repairs.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Turnbull Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:53 a.m. on Friday, March 25, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house in the 100 block of Turnbull Drive.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the home. Due to safety concerns, crews were not able to access the fire offensively and launched a defensive attack using an aerial ladder and hand lines.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Victor Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 600 block of Victor Street.

Once crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke and flames coming from the building. Crews used hand lines on exposures to knock down some of the flames before making entry into the building and fighting the fire offensively. They declared the fire under control at 4:52 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on University Crescent

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:06 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an automatic alarm at a 15-storey apartment complex in the 0 to 100 block of University Crescent. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on-scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on St. Elmo Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:41 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow on St. Elmo Road.

Once on-scene, crews found smoke coming from the house. They launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 12:02 a.m.

All occupants of the house safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
