Mayor Bowman Attending Meeting of Big City Mayors’ Caucus in Regina

Released: May 31, 2022 at 9:59 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Tomorrow, Mayor Brian Bowman will depart for Regina to take part in a meeting of the Big City Mayors’ Caucus (BCMC).

“This meeting of the BCMC will deal with issues including housing and downtown recovery, issues of importance right now in cities across Canada,” said Mayor Bowman. “As cities are emerging from the latest wave of the global pandemic, housing and downtown recovery remain a particular focus for Canada’s big city mayors. I look forward to sharing our efforts and hearing from other mayors about strategies being deployed in other Canadian cities.”

Big city mayors attending the meeting this week will also discuss ongoing reconciliation efforts.

“It’s really good to see municipal leaders across Canada increasingly focused on reconciliation efforts,” said Mayor Bowman. “In Winnipeg, we have made reconciliation a key priority. Dialogue at the BCMC can help us share what’s working in Winnipeg and learn from other communities to help us move further on our Journey of Reconciliation.”

The BCMC is comprised of a regional group of Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) member cities. It meets two to three times a year to prioritize shared issues, reinforce FCM policy and advocate. The meeting of BCMC will conclude on Friday and the Mayor will be back in Winnipeg on the weekend.
