Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Rannock Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:09 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a two-storey house in the 5900 block of Rannock Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 3:07 p.m.

The two occupants who were in the house self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. On-scene paramedics transported them both to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Section of King Street to close starting Friday

Winnipeg, MB – King Street, from Notre Dame Avenue to McDermot Avenue, will be closed on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. until Saturday, June 18 at 7 a.m. for film production. The east sidewalk will remain open.

City Libraries kick-off TD Summer Reading Club

Winnipeg, MB – TD Summer Reading Club, Canada’s largest bilingual summer reading program, returns for another year of reading fun and programs at Winnipeg Public Library. Children of all ages can now visit any library branch to receive a free bilingual reading kit that includes an activity notebook, stickers, and a calendar to track reading.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service performs water rescue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:10 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a male youth in the Red River near Bishop Grandin Boulevard and River Road. The 9-1-1 caller reported that the person began floating northward while sitting on a log.

The WFPS Water Rescue team launched their Zodiac boat and brought the youth safely to shore at 4:49 p.m.

Paramedics on-scene assessed and transported the patient to hospital in stable condition.

It is not known how long the individual was in the water or why.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a hazardous material incident on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:33 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a hazardous material incident inside the BellMTS Iceplex on Portage Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they established a perimeter around the building and confirmed the self-evacuation of occupants.

The hazardous materials team proceeded to enter the building and recorded high levels of ammonia of up to 200 parts per million (ppm).

Section of Redwood Avenue to close starting Monday

Winnipeg, MB – Eastbound and westbound Redwood Avenue, from Charles Street to the Redwood Bridge, will be closed for a water main renewal project on Monday, June 13 at 7 a.m. until Friday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

Spring cleanup operations ending

Winnipeg, MB – The City's spring cleanup of streets, sidewalks, boulevards, and parks is wrapping up today, and the annual grass mowing program is now underway.

The City wishes to thank residents for their cooperation throughout our cleanup operations. Residents who believe their boulevard has remaining excessive sand can report the location to 311 until June 26, 2022. Details on what constitutes excessive sand can be viewed online.
