Winnipeg, MB – At 8:45 p.m. on July 27, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey, multi-family dwelling in the 100 block of Austin Street North.
When crews arrived at the scene, they encountered smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Occupants of the structure self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by paramedics on scene and transported to hospital in stable condition. Firefighters located two cats and brought them to safety.
The fire was contained to the suite where the fire originated. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist the displaced residents from that suite in finding temporary accommodations. All other residents were able to return to their suites once crews ventilated the building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
