Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to five residential fires

Winnipeg, MB – Since the evening of Sunday, October 9, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to five residential fires.

Alfred Avenue

At 5:46 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey home in the 300 block of Alfred Avenue.

At the scene, firefighters saw heavy black smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews attacked the fire from the inside. It was under control at 5:54 p.m.

Firefighters searched the building to ensure no one was inside. No one was injured.

The house sustained fire and smoke damage; no damage estimates are available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Pritchard Avenue

At 8:22 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey home in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.

At the scene, firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews attacked the fire from the inside. It was under control at 8:39 p.m.

Everyone got out of the house safely, and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.

Qu’Appelle Avenue

At 5:22 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a four-storey apartment building in the 400 block of Qu’Appelle Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw smoke and flames coming from the home. Crews attacked the fire from the inside, and it was under control at 5:51 a.m.

Everyone who was inside got out safely, no one was injured. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team attended the scene to help the displaced residents find alternate housing until it is safe to return to their home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.

Pritchard Avenue

At 5:37 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw very heavy smoke and large flames coming from the house. Firefighters attacked the fire from the outside until it was safe to work from the inside. The fire was under control in about an hour.

Residents in two neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.

Gordon Avenue

At 7:56 a.m. on Monday, October 10, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey townhouse in the 200 block of Gordon Avenue.

At the scene, crews saw smoke coming from the home. Crews attacked the fire from the inside, and it was under control at 8:21 a.m.

Everyone who was inside the home got out safely. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team attended the scene to help the displaced residents find alternate housing until it is safe to return to their home.

No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available.
