Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Inkster Garden Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 0 to 100 block of Inkster Garden Drive.

When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:26 p.m. Fire damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated, but several suites sustained water damage.

Upcoming temporary road closures beginning Saturday

Winnipeg, MB – The following are upcoming temporary road closures that will take effect in the coming days:

Grassie Boulevard

Grassie Boulevard, between Plessis road and Skowron Crescent, will be closed for road construction on Saturday, September 17 at 7 a.m. until Sunday, September 18 at 6 p.m.

St. James Bridge onto eastbound Academy Road

The off-ramp from southbound St. James Bridge onto eastbound Academy Road will be closed for road construction on Saturday, September 17 at 6 a.m. until Sunday, September 18 at 3 p.m.

Elm Bark Beetle Control Program Begins

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Elm Bark Beetle Control Program will begin Sunday, September 18, 2022, weather permitting.

The program intends to reduce the spread of Dutch Elm Disease (DED) by controlling the beetles that carry the disease.

It will begin in Insect Management Areas 41 (Armstrong Point, Broadway - Assiniboine, Legislature, Portage & Main, South Portage, The Forks, West Broadway, Wolseley), 47 (Inkster - Faraday, Luxton, St. John's, St. John's Park), and 50 (Jefferson, Kildonan Park, Seven Oaks).

Nomination Period for Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee candidates starts today

Winnipeg, MB – The Senior Election Official for the City of Winnipeg will be accepting nomination papers for the offices of Mayor, Councillor, and School Trustee, beginning today, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022.

The City Clerk’s Department, located on the main floor of the Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main St., will be open every day during the above noted period from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Temporary road closures taking effect tomorrow

Winnipeg, MB – The following are upcoming temporary road closures that will take effect tomorrow:

Hargrave Street closure

Hargrave Street, from St. Mary Avenue to Graham Avenue, will be closed on Friday, September 9 at 9:15 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. for crane work.

Jubilee Avenue closure

Westbound Jubilee Avenue, from Daly Street to Osborne Street, will be closed on Friday, September 9 at 6 p.m. until Monday, September 12 at 6 a.m., for road construction.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 700 block of Elgin Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was extinguished by 5:14 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Manitoba Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:49 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey multi-family residence in the 900 block of Manitoba Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 8:45 p.m.

St. James Civic Centre reopens following building systems upgrades

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg announced the phased reopening of the St. James Civic Centre, beginning with today’s reopening of the south side of the facility. The Ab McDonald Arena is anticipated to reopen to the public on September 25.

The reopening follows an extensive upgrade project that replaced critical building systems, improved accessibility, and refreshed spaces within the 56-year-old facility.
