Public invited to Candlelight Service of Remembrance

Winnipeg, MB - Members of the public are invited to attend a Candlelight Service of Remembrance today, Thursday, September 22 at 8 p.m. at the Field of Honour in Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue to recognize and honour those who have served.

A candle will be placed on each of the more than 11,000 military monuments found in Brookside Cemetery, one of the oldest and largest military interment sites in Canada.

Public invited to open house for the Waverley Underpass Project

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public open house about the Waverley Underpass project.

A detailed design for the Waverley Underpass project is currently underway. An open house event will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016. The open house is an opportunity for the public to view the detailed design for the underpass, learn about pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, intersection and road improvements, as well as construction timelines and detours.

2017 City of Winnipeg Budget Schedule Announced

Winnipeg, MB - The preliminary 2017 Operating and Capital budgets will be tabled at a special meeting of Executive Policy Committee on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, and opportunities for residents to be involved in the budget process this year have been enhanced Councillor Marty Morantz, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance announced today.

Northbound direction of Arlington Street from Machray Avenue to Inkster Boulevard will be closed for road repairs starting September 22

Winnipeg, MB - Starting Thursday, September 22 at 6:00 a.m., Arlington Street from Machray Avenue to Inkster Boulevard will be closed in the northbound direction for road repairs. It is anticipated that the repairs will take approximately one week to complete at which time the northbound direction will be reopened and the southbound direction will be closed for repairs for another week. Weather permitting it is expected that both northbound and southbound directions will be reopened to traffic by Thursday, October 6.

Mayor Bowman Announces Panel to Recommend Winnipeg's New Integrity Commissioner

Winnipeg, MB - A three member panel of Council will review applications and recommend to Executive Policy Committee for Council's approval the appointment of Winnipeg's first Integrity Commissioner, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

The panel will be chaired by Deputy Mayor Mike Pagtakhan who will be joined by Speaker Devi Sharma and Councillor Matt Allard.

Damaged water line may temporarily cause discoloured water for some residents in eastern parts of the city

Winnipeg, MB - As a result of damage to a private water line, the City is manually controlling a water main and feeder main near Marion and Doucet. Residents in the east side of the city are advised that they may temporarily experience discoloured water. Those in the potentially affected area are encouraged to check for discoloured water before using their water.

McGregor Street closed between Alfred Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue

Winnipeg, MB - McGregor Street is closed for emergency repairs between Alfred Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue.

While working to complete a pipe repair, crews discovered the ground underneath the concrete was unstable under both southbound lanes of McGregor and are now working to repair it.

McGregor Street between Alfred and Aberdeen Avenues will remain closed to all traffic until repairs are completed. The road is expected to reopen on September 22, 2016.

Logan Avenue between McPhillips Street and Winks Street to be temporarily closed September 16-19

Winnipeg, MB - Logan Avenue between McPhillips Street and Winks Street will be completely closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic starting today, September 16 at 6:00 p.m. for a wastewater and land drainage repair. It is anticipated that Logan Avenue will be reopened to traffic by 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 19. Pedestrian access will be maintained while repairs are underway, and motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.
