City marking Right to Know Week

WINNIPEG - September 26, 2016 - Each year in September, 40 countries and 60 non-governmental organizations celebrate Right to Know Week. The purpose is to raise the awareness of an individual’s right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance.

Logan Avenue between Keewatin Street and Cecil Street closed to all westbound traffic beginning Sunday, September 25

Winnipeg, MB - The City’s road reconstruction project continues on Logan Avenue between Cecil Street and Keewatin Street. Starting this Sunday, the westbound lanes on Logan Avenue will be completely closed to traffic between Keewatin Street and Cecil Street. A single lane of traffic will remain open in the eastbound direction until October 21. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the north sidewalk.

Section of Point Douglas Trail will be temporarily closed for pathway improvements

Winnipeg, MB - A section of the North Winnipeg Parkway called the Point Douglas Trail, between Waterfront Drive and Annabella Street, will be temporarily closed for a pathway improvement project starting on Monday, September 26.

The project includes widening and stabilizing the path as well as making lighting improvements. Once construction begins the pathway will be closed with temporary closure signage until the project is completed on October 31.

Complete Closure of Selkirk Avenue from Salter Street to McGregor Street on September 24 for Selkirk Street Festival

Winnipeg, MB - On Saturday, September 24, Selkirk Avenue between Salter Street and McGregor Street will be completely closed to vehicular traffic starting at 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. for the Selkirk Street Festival. Pedestrian sidewalk access will be maintained.

While this road closure is in place, motorists should allow additional time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.

Citizens encouraged to get involved on Boards and Commissions

Winnipeg, MB - The City Clerk’s Office will be accepting applications for positions on various Boards and Commissions from September 23, 2016 to November 18, 2016.

Every September, the City Clerk’s Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions on which there are imminent or existing vacancies.

Applications are now being accepted to fill vacancies on the following boards and committees:
