Winnipeg Public Library invites applications for 2017-2018 Writer-in-Residence

Winnipeg, MB - Winnipeg Public Library is inviting applications for an established, professionally-published author with experience in editing, or teaching writing, to be the 2017-2018 Writer-in-Residence.

Winnipeg Public Library hosts many literary and learning programs to enhance the cultural vitality of the city, and one of the longest-running services is the Writer-in-Residence program. Since 1985, talented and award-winning authors have provided one-on-one mentorship and public workshops to hundreds of emerging writers of all genres.

City launches new parks and open space interactive web map

Winnipeg, MB -The City has launched a new and easy to use parks and open space interactive web map to help Winnipeggers find the perfect park location, park amenity, athletic field and park feature for their next family barbecue, pickup game, summer or winter activity!

The interactive web map, available at parkmaps.winnipeg.ca, helps users easily find City of Winnipeg parks using a searchable map view. Users can search by park name, park feature and amenity, or by keyword or location.

City encourages citizens to plan ahead for emergencies

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is encouraging citizens to use Emergency Preparedness Week to learn about planning ahead for emergencies. The annual event takes place during the first full week of May and encourages the public to be prepared to manage on their own for at least the first 72 hours of an emergency, enabling first responders to focus on those in urgent need. This year’s theme is Plan. Prepare. Be Aware.

Stafford Street reduced to one lane in each direction from Weatherdon Avenue to Grant Avenue for sewer repairs

Winnipeg, MB - Stafford Street will be temporarily reduced to one lane in each direction for sewer repairs from Weatherdon Avenue to Grant Avenue, beginning after rush hour today, Thursday, May 4. Northbound Stafford Street will be completely closed in this section and traffic will be re-directed to one lane in each direction on the west side of Stafford Street. Stafford Street is expected to fully reopen on Wednesday, May 10.
