Reminder: Public invited to open house for an update on Transcona Ward Parks and Playgrounds Open House

Released: May 3, 2017 at 12:19 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Tonight from 5pm to 8pm at 826 Regent Ave West (Canad Inn Transcona) the Transcona Ward Parks and Playgrounds Open House will be held that will provide residents with information and be an opportunity to receive feedback on the 2017 park renewal projects as well as projects planned for the future.

On display will be information outlining 6 park renewal projects will take place in 2017 plus three more parks that will see a tree planting program. Furthermore the public will be able to see plans for five more new parks being built via Developer obligations in the new and growing community of Transcona West, including the first planned community off leash dog park, one for small dogs and one for large dogs.

Looking beyond 2017, the public will be able to give input into another nine existing park renewal projects planned, including plans to upgrade and improve the community's only skateboard park at Victoria Jason Park.

Since 2004, a total of 33 parks have been renewed or new parks constructed in the Transcona Ward, a community that has over 100 parks. Recently in a City wide park study, the Transcona Ward scored the highest mark in terms of parks in good condition when compared to the rest of the city, and this was only made possible by a concerted effort over the last decade or so by the community of Transcona to renew its existing park inventory.

This is the second Open House with the first held in the first week of December 2016 but it was impacted by the blizzard of that week.
