City awards renovation grants to 11 community centres

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Brian Bowman announced today that 11 City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations.

The Community Centre Renovation Grant (CCRG) Program received and approved 11 applications from the Spring 2017 intake period for a combined total of $506,238 in grant funding. Since the program’s inception, the City has invested $4,666,329 into 118 different community centre applications for renovations across the city.

Winnipeg receives two grants for additional tree and shrub planting

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg has been awarded two grants that will go toward the planting of an additional 200 trees and 200 shrubs in natural areas and other public green spaces throughout the city this year.

The City of Winnipeg has been awarded a $1,600 grant from Tree Canada - Tree to Our Nature Canada 150 Legacy Program funded by the Government of Canada to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.

Public invited to provide feedback on phase two of pedestrian and cycling project connecting West Alexander to East Exchange

The City of Winnipeg is looking at options to improve the existing painted bike lanes on McDermot Avenue and Bannatyne Avenue to protected infrastructure so that they are comfortable for people of all ages and abilities.

A goal of Walk Bike projects is to balance the needs of all users and improve travel choices, accessibility and connectivity. The public engagement process for this project began in February 2017 and has documented input from hundreds of citizens. We’re looking to continue the conversation and get input on proposed design options.

Complete closure of Ellice Avenue from Sherbrook Street to Langside Street on Saturday, June 10

Ellice Avenue between Sherbrook Street and Langside Street will be completely closed to vehicular traffic from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10 for the Ellice Street Festival. Pedestrian sidewalk access will be maintained.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Task Force for Heritage, Culture & the Arts Submits Final Report

Extended hours offered for homeowner construction-related permit applications and inspections

Winnipeg, MB - Recently, the City of Winnipeg’s Permits Office began offering extended hours of operation to better fit the needs of Winnipeg homeowners.

“We recently launched a new customer service initiative for homeowner inspections because we recognize that homeowners sometimes need flexibility in arranging for inspections,” says Stan Dueck, Manager of Development and Inspections for the City of Winnipeg. “We are pleased to offer homeowners the option of booking inspection appointments on selected evenings and Saturdays.”
